Besides taking care of our
family of dogs, Paul and I foster greyhounds for a local greyhound
rescue, located in Mendon, MA (www.greyhoundrescuene.org).
While working closely with the shelter, the ultimate goal is to
find the perfect match for each dog. At the same time, it gives the
greyhound shelter one more empty space for another rescue and it
enables them to find out more about the dog's personality and what
the dog is like in a home situation.
Retired greyhounds are beautiful, loyal, and intelligent pets. If
given love and attention, proper food, medical care and exercise,
they can live a long life (12-14 years). They will provide companionship
and unconditional love in return. Greyhounds are always "greytful" to
their new family.
We find it very rewarding to foster these beautiful animals and when
their forever home is found, it is extremely satisfying. Here are
some of the dogs we've fostered:

|
 |
Ricky |
 |
| Ricky
is six years old and a very shy boy and very unsure of people
and places. He is very affectionate, but only after getting to
know you. He gets along great with the whippets and other dogs
and he's extremely easy to live with, as he's very quiet. We
had Ricky for four months before he went back to the shelter,
so he could be available for prospective adopters to see him.
His time with us was helpful to him, and he seemed more relaxed
around other people and surroundings after getting back to the
shelter. Ricky was adopted the beginning of April 2007. |

Peanut |
|
| Peanut
is five years old. She was difficult to adopt, as she was labeled
as "high energy." When she got in a home situation, she was very
calm and loving and got along great with the whippets and other
dogs. She was not familiar with toys and life outside a kennel,
in general. She was a joy to foster and she was very friendly
to everyone and was very playful. After being with us for a little
more than a month, Peanut found her forever home with a wonderful
couple in Connecticut that had an older greyhound and they wanted
a companion for him. It was a pefect match and they thoroughly
enjoy Peanut. We still correspond with the new owners. |

 |
Wes |
|
| Wes is five years old. He
is extremely friendly and got along fine with the whippets and other
dogs. Wes is very easy-going and is an excellent model of the greyhound.
He was returned to the shelter only after two weeks, so he could
be taken to the greyhound awareness weekends that the shelter participated
in at the local PetSmart stores. Even though many people showed an
interest in Wes, he stayed at the shelter for another few months
until right after the New Year 2007, when Wes went to his forever
home. |

Tuffy |
 |
| Tuffy is nine years old
and was returned to the shelter by the owner, for personal reasons,
after having him for six years. Tuffy was very unhappy after being
displaced. When he first came to us, he was very confused and would
not eat. He was a challenge and it took a while, but eventually Tuffy
became relaxed and happy with his new surroundings after getting
into a daily routine. Tuffy is very easy to live with and is extremely
affectionate and asks for nothing, except a pat and a hug. He is
very playful and got along famously with the whippets and other dogs.
Tuffy was adopted mid-January 2007 by a young couple from Rhode Island. |

Jax |
|
| Jax is ten years old and
was also returned to the shelter by the owners
after six years. Jax was a perfect gentleman while with us. He was
obedient, affectionate and very well mannered. He got along great
with all our dogs. Jax was with us for about a week when someone
called (who already had one greyhound and a cat), asking to foster
a greyhound. After only a week in foster care, the foster parents
fell in love with him and decided they wanted to adopt Jax. |

Sundance |
 |
| Sundance is
5 years old and, as you can see by his picture, is extremely handsome!
Sundance is a very curious dog and is very alert to all the goings
on around him. He appears to be a “woman’s” dog,
as he acts a little gingerly around men. He does come around to men,
but it seems his first choice is a woman. What a guy! When he becomes
comfortable with his surroundings, he is very playful, lovable, and
affectionate. Sundance loves attention and loves his belly rubbed.
He gets along great with all the other dogs. Sundance went to his
forever home late April 2007. |

Toes |
|
| Toes is 4 years
old and a real sweetheart! What a beauty!! She is very quiet and
easy-going. She is extremely friendly and greets everyone coming
into the house. She is very smart and a quick learner.
She loves to have her ears rubbed and
always comes back for more. Toes was adopted by a very nice family
mid-April 2007. |

Northstar |
|
| Northstar is 4 years old
and as you can see, he has a very distinctive, handsome face. He's
a very friendly, quiet boy and it's hard to say no to him
with his big brown eyes. He's very affectionate and loves attention.
He loves to play with his squeaky toys and amuses himself with them
for long periods of time. He loves to go for walks and is at the
door when he sees you get the leash. Northstar went to his forever
home in June 2007. |

Blackjack |
 |
| Blackjack came to stay with
us on Septermber 25, 2007. He is 6 years old, and despite his more
mature age, he's very playful. He's very obedient and very
gentle when taking a treat. He's very intelligent, and it didn't
take him long at all to learn the routine here. He sits patiently
in his pen watching the other dogs come and go, until it's his
turn to go out. When he comes back in, he goes right to his pen
to get back to his toy and wait for his treat. Blackjack is very
quiet and friendly towards everyone. He loves to be patted and
enjoys a hug. He responds when you speak to him and he loves the
attention. He's a good boy. Blackjack went to his forever home
mid-January 2008 to a nice couple that originally started off by
fostering him and decided he was such a love, they wanted to adopt
him. |

Leo |
|
| Leo came to us the beginning of December, 2007. Leo is 2-1/2
years old and quite a striking boy, especially with his white "socks" against
his very dark brindling. Because of his young age, Leo is learning
a lot of new things while in foster care and is being introduced
to what life is like outside of a kennel. He's adapted well to this
life of being spoiled, and he's a very smart boy. He's very happy
and content to be around people and other dogs. He's very playful
and affectionate, and he loves to go for walks. He loves attention
and he almost falls asleep standing up when you rub his ears. Leo
has been to a couple of the PetCo Meet & Greets,
and he is very friendly to anyone who comes up to him to meet him.
Leo went back to the shelter mid-March and was there
only a week or so before he went to his forever home
with a wonderful family in Massachsuetts.
